Job Description

This buyer is responsible for selecting and negotiating with approved vendors and placing purchase orders in response to product requirements established by various departments within the organization.

 

The Compensation range for this position is approximately $63,750 - $78,750 and will be based on the candidate’s qualification, experience, and education.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Evaluate bids, select and recommend suppliers and negotiate price, quality and service. Typically reviews important bids with supervisor before placing orders.
  • Expedite orders with suppliers to meet production schedules.
  • Negotiate and settle with suppliers regarding damage claims, rejections and losses, return of materials, over-shipments, cancellations and engineering changes.
  • Conduct supplier site visits and rate them as to production capability, performance and delivery as needed.

Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires at least 1 year related experience.

Intermediate knowledge in a wide range concepts and approaches including purchasing for lean manufacturing, Kanban and supplier development. Requires strong negotiation abilities and above average analytical skills. Shows excellent verbal and written communication skills. Requires some knowledge of raw materials, production processes and quality control. Competent in computerized procurement systems. Requires intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. May require MS Access experience.
