We are seeking a high-impact, technically specialized HVAC Systems Engineering Specialist to join our team and focus on maximizing the availability and reliability of our HVACR systems. This role blends deep technical expertise with strategic systems thinking, emphasizing the interaction between embedded controls, component dynamics, and controlled space response.

 

You will provide collaborative leadership across engineering teams working together to define system-level requirements on select high-impact projects.

 

GENERAL DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

 

System Oversight & Integration:

  • Provide a system-level perspective to ensure cohesive integration and high reliability across HVACR systems.
  • Apply Design for Reliability principles to embedded systems and load interactions to enhance system uptime and user experience.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Platform Engineering, Controls Architecture, and Advanced Technology—to define and deliver robust firmware and system-level requirements.
  • Develop strategies to manage off-nominal conditions, including error states, limp-along modes, and self-recovery mechanisms.

Tools & Process Development:

  • Establish tools and processes to support a growing Systems Engineering function, improving the quality and completeness of engineering requirements.
  • Evaluate and enhance existing modeling tools (e.g., Sysim, building modeling, condenser fan modeling) to support better system design and requirement definition.
  • Work with cross functional teams to develop true-to-life models to validate requirements.
  • Lead the development of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices using system modeling languages, tools, and structured processes.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in HVACR or thermal/fluid systems.
  • Strong understanding of system-level design, subsystem integration, and reliability principles.
  • Proficiency in system modeling tools and techniques (e.g., Sysim, MBSE tools, building energy modeling).
  • Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams (e.g., controls, mechanical, advanced technology).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and tools (e.g., SysML).
  • Familiarity with Design for Reliability (DfR) practices and tools.
  • Knowledge of firmware development processes and embedded system interactions.
  • Experience in developing engineering processes and tools from the ground up.
  • Demonstrated expertise in controls engineering and mechanical systems integration.
  • Strong background in simulation, modeling, and analysis of complex systems.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
  • Background in control theory, embedded systems, and sensor integration.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink, Ansys, etc.).
  • Experience with embedded controls development using agile methodologies.
