Job Description

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Lead Cost Accountant to oversee cost accounting activities within a shared services environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of cost-related transactions and financial data, leading efforts to maintain compliance with GAAP and internal policies and driving improvements in cost accounting processes. The Lead Cost Accountant will perform and review general ledger entries, reconcile cost accounts, and provide strategic insights through detailed cost analysis and reporting. This position plays a key role in supporting financial reporting, inventory valuation, and standard cost maintenance across the organization.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

  • Prepare, review, and post cost-related journal entries, including entries for inventory valuation, cost of goods sold (COGS); reconcile cost accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing detailed cost records, inventory reports, and documentation of standard costing methodologies.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls over cost accounting processes, such as inventory variations and cost roll.
  • Develop, analyze, and present financial reports focused on inventory valuation, production costs, standard vs. actual cost variances, and margin analysis.
  • Lead the annual standard cost roll process, coordinating with cross-functional teams—including operations, supply chain, and finance—to gather updated inputs for bill of materials (BOM), labor rates, and overhead allocations. Conduct detailed reviews of cost components to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with business strategies and operational realities.
  • Manage the tariff review and application process, ensuring accurate inclusion of import duties and trade-related costs in product costing. Collaborate with supply chain and compliance teams to monitor tariff changes, assess financial impact, and maintain alignment with regulatory requirements.
  • Lead complex cost accounting tasks, such as month-end close for manufacturing cost centers, and ensure compliance with GAAP in cost-related financial operations.
  • Review and modify policies related to cost analysis, inventory valuation, and cost roll to align with evolving business needs and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate across teams, including operations, supply chain, and finance, to ensure accurate cost capture and support strategic decision-making.
  • Manage cost accounting projects and ad-hoc requests, such as cost impact analysis for new product introductions or process changes.
