What Drives Success

The Quality Engineer III is responsible for driving product, process, and supplier quality improvements across manufacturing operations. This role applies advanced quality engineering principles, statistical analysis, problem-solving methodologies, and Quality Management System (QMS) expertise to improve product reliability, reduce variation, ensure compliance with ISO standards, and support supplier quality performance. The Quality Engineer III serves as a key technical resource for production, engineering, operations, and suppliers while leading continuous improvement initiatives and mentoring less experienced team members.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Quality Engineering & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead root cause investigations and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) using methodologies such as 8D, DMAIC, and structured problem solving.
  • Analyze quality data to identify trends, defects, process variation, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Apply statistical tools including SPC, Cp/Cpk studies, hypothesis testing, control charts, and capability analysis to drive data-based decision making.
  • Develop and maintain process control plans, inspection methods, testing procedures, and quality documentation.
  • Lead Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) activities to identify risks and establish effective controls.
  • Conduct Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Gage R&R studies to ensure measurement system effectiveness.
  • Design and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) to optimize manufacturing processes and improve product performance.
  • Troubleshoot production-related quality issues and partner with operations to implement sustainable solutions.
  • Support Material Review Board (MRB) activities, defect analysis, and disposition processes.
  • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing quality performance, trends, and improvement initiatives.
  • Lead and support Six Sigma and continuous improvement projects focused on reducing waste, variation, and cost.

Supplier Quality Management

  • Serve as the primary quality interface for assigned suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier quality performance, delivery metrics, and corrective action effectiveness.
  • Lead supplier root cause investigations and corrective action activities through Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs).
  • Conduct supplier audits, assessments, and process evaluations to ensure compliance with quality requirements.
  • Support supplier development initiatives to improve quality, reliability, and manufacturing capability.
  • Lead Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities for new components and supplier changes.
  • Review and approve First Article Inspections (FAI), validation data, and supplier qualification documentation.
  • Evaluate and approve supplier-requested process, material, or design changes.
  • Analyze warranty, field, and supplier performance data to identify systemic issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Engineering, and Operations to ensure supplier quality requirements are effectively communicated and implemented.

Quality Management System & Compliance

  • Maintain and improve the Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits, certification activities, and customer audits.
  • Conduct internal process and system audits to verify compliance with company procedures and quality standards.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain quality policies, procedures, work instructions, and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable customer, regulatory, and industry requirements.
  • Track and drive closure of audit findings, corrective actions, and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing changes required by evolving customer, regulatory, or ISO requirements.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to quality inspectors, technicians, and junior engineers.
  • Partner with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operations teams to improve product and process performance.
  • Facilitate cross-functional problem-solving teams focused on quality improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate quality metrics, project status, risks, and recommendations to leadership.
  • Support new product introductions, process transfers, and manufacturing readiness activities.

What We Are Looking For

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of quality systems, statistical analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with:
    • Root Cause Analysis
    • Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA)
    • SPC and Capability Analysis (Cp/Cpk)
    • PFMEA and Control Plans
    • PPAP and Supplier Quality Management
    • MSA and Gage R&R
    • 8D Problem Solving
    • Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Quality Management Systems
  • Experience conducting ISO 9001:2015 internal audits and supporting external audits.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools.
  • Strong communication, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), or equivalent certification.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Certified ISO 9001:2015 supplier audits and supplier development initiatives.
  • Experience with DOE, ANOVA, and advanced statistical methods.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.

 

What We Offer

Compensation: This is a salaried exempt role. The starting salary range for this role and market is between $91,000 - $120,000 annually. Factors that may affect starting salary include geography/market and the skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. Employees in this role are also eligible for an annual bonus in accordance with the terms of the Company’s applicable plan. Employees in this role are not eligible for overtime.
